Day three? Am I already losing count?

Today is day three of my big dietary change. Of COURSE I feel better. I should, right? I have had no cheese or animal products (aside form a little salmon) for three days. In addition, I have had Rockin Wellness in the morning with a banana. So far so great. Today I added an afternoon snack of "Greens Plus" drink mixed with pure cherry juice cut in half with water. Rockin Wellness certainly tastes much better. I definitely feel better than normal today. Well duh, of course I do. I didn't expect to feel better so quickly, though. I guess that is the big aha for me. Radically changing my diet really has made a huge difference...quickly. Wow.

Day One

I started my morning with my new healthy beverage Rockin Wellness. I watched this product through the company's Facebook page for a long time before I purchased it.
It seemed quite pricey, so I wanted to be sure it wasn't just a sketchy scheme. My mother has Myleodysplastic Syndrome which basically means her bone marrow is unusually lousy at producing red blood cells. I am always looking for things that might make her feel better. The personal testimonies from people who have used this product consistently reported recognizable, and measurable results. I tried it for the first time this morning.

The Rockin Wellness shake was a chocolatey flavor, with undertones of nutshell. It really reminded me of this groovy "health food store" my mom frequented in the 70s. This old familiar smell/taste made me feel like the contents were as close to quality as one could possibly get in this day and age. I showed it to my favorite supplement store Willner's Chemists, and they wholeheartedly approved the ingredients. The only question they had that we couldn't answer was how much of each ingredient the proprietary blend contained. Never the less, it tastes good, and it is good for you. More updates to come after more shakes.

I successfully finished my first day of veganism. I had vegetables and couscous and nuts and dried fruit. No cheese, no bread, and obviously, no other meat or dairy products. Onward towards tomorrow!

A New Day, a New Vegan

I have been contemplating becoming Vegan for a really long time. With that always in mind, several years ago I began eliminating meat from my diet. I don't so much like meat, so it's not much of a challenge to consider not choosing animal products. Don't get me wrong, I love a burger or a steak on occasion, but it's certainly not a temptation.

My vegetarian tendencies started many years ago, long before vegetarianism took the foot hold it has today. In the beginning, I would be in a healthy mood and order turkey on a sandwich. I would feel proud that I ordered turkey instead of corned beef on that Reuben sandwich. That was step one. Next, I began ordering a turkey sandwich, opening said sandwich and removing part of the turkey, closing it back up, and taking pride in enjoying my conservative and slender rendition. As time went on, though, I noticed that since I had created the habit of removing the turkey from the sandwiches, I began removing more turkey. After a while it was almost a turkey "shadow" sandwich since there was barely a single slice. I had lost my taste for meat.

Today, I usually order fish or lacto-ovo vegetarian entrees when I go to a restaurant. Some have called me a Pescetarian since the only meat I will eat is fish. Mostly restaurants offer a vegetarian entree, meaning no meat, but few offer vegan choices meaning no animal products at all.

This decision comes at a very poignant time. It's Mardis Gras! Tomorrow begins the season of lent, making for the perfect day to begin a more serious journey towards a vegan lifestyle. I'm giving up cheese for lent. And that's a really big deal! In addition, my first bag of Rockin Wellness came today, and with that I intend on embarking on a "true as I can" vegan diet. Rockin Wellness is a shake meant to heal and help the whole body. Tomorrow, I will share my first experience with this seemingly supreme vegan product.

I know that I won't be perfect so I'm saying this up front, I"M NOT GOING TO BE A PERFECT VEGAN!" So you "vegan as religion" freaks can just holler all you want. Go on and get it out of your systems. This blog is called "Being an Imperfect Vegan " for a reason. If other imperfects want t0 try along with me, I encourage you vegan derelicts to strug along with me. We will have fun, laugh at ourselves, make friends, and get healthier, even if we aren't perfect.
