My vegetarian tendencies started many years ago, long before vegetarianism took the foot hold it has today. In the beginning, I would be in a healthy mood and order turkey on a sandwich. I would feel proud that I ordered turkey instead of corned beef on that Reuben sandwich. That was step one. Next, I began ordering a turkey sandwich, opening said sandwich and removing part of the turkey, closing it back up, and taking pride in enjoying my conservative and slender rendition. As time went on, though, I noticed that since I had created the habit of removing the turkey from the sandwiches, I began removing more turkey. After a while it was almost a turkey "shadow" sandwich since there was barely a single slice. I had lost my taste for meat.
Today, I usually order fish or lacto-ovo vegetarian entrees when I go to a restaurant. Some have called me a Pescetarian since the only meat I will eat is fish. Mostly restaurants offer a vegetarian entree, meaning no meat, but few offer vegan choices meaning no animal products at all.
This decision comes at a very poignant time. It's Mardis Gras! Tomorrow begins the season of lent, making for the perfect day to begin a more serious journey towards a vegan lifestyle. I'm giving up cheese for lent. And that's a really big deal! In addition, my first bag of Rockin Wellness came today, and with that I intend on embarking on a "true as I can" vegan diet. Rockin Wellness is a shake meant to heal and help the whole body. Tomorrow, I will share my first experience with this seemingly supreme vegan product.
I know that I won't be perfect so I'm saying this up front, I"M NOT GOING TO BE A PERFECT VEGAN!" So you "vegan as religion" freaks can just holler all you want. Go on and get it out of your systems. This blog is called "Being an Imperfect Vegan " for a reason. If other imperfects want t0 try along with me, I encourage you vegan derelicts to strug along with me. We will have fun, laugh at ourselves, make friends, and get healthier, even if we aren't perfect.
xoxo
